CBG is the non-acidic form of CBGA, which is the parent molecule from which several additional cannabinoids are originated. When a cannabis plant fully matures, the majority of the CBG within the plant is converted into CBGA. As a result, CBGA turns into other cannabinoids. Because of this conversion this conversion into other cannabinoids, CBG is often referred to as the ‘stem cell’ or ‘parent’ of other cannabinoids.
What science says about CBG
CBG interacts with both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, potentially inhibiting the psychoactive effects of THC. CBG has also demonstrated an ability to increase anandamide, widely referred to as the “bliss molecule,” an endogenous cannabinoid that helps regulate a wide range of bodily functions, including sleep, appetite, mood, and the immune system.
CBD rich cannabis seeds
A lot of years of breeding and research has been put to work, and the THC content of CBG dominant seeds can now go as low as 0.05%. This makes them qualified for cultivation in various EU countries and US states under applicable hemp legislation.
Cannabis professionals are already working on cannabis seed varieties that are CBG-rich, making it possible to grow THC-free and CBG-rich cannabis from feminized seeds. The first CBG dominant genetics are getting released by several seed companies at the moment.
Medicinal
While the research conducted on CBG is still in its infancy, the potential health benefits of CBG could be huge.
Broadly speaking, the medicinal properties of CBG could be similar to those of CBD. Various scientific studies, like the one published in the British Journal of Pharmacology (Taming THC: Potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects), indicate that CBG lowers pain, is a major sleep-inducer, reduces the inflammation caused by some disorders like Crohn’s disease and has anti-depressive properties.
Furthermore, CBG could inhibit the growth of cancer cells and seems to contribute to slowing down the progression of colon cancer. FIn addition, CBG might be a powerful ally in treating glaucoma, since it seems to lower intraocular pressure.
